Why use Kitchen Wraps?

Kitchen Wraps are a cost effective alternative to replacing kitchen doors, drawers and worktops. The wraps can be applied yourself with no need for a professional fitter.

The wraps are manufactured in Germany to a very high standard.

Kitchen Wraps are easy to apply thanks to the special water based adhesive, which strengthens over time. This allows you to peel the film back if you make a mistake and re-apply. Some cheaper alternatives with more aggressive adhesives are difficult to remove and may tear.

What surfaces can Kitchen Wraps be applied to?

In a nutshell the surface needs to be flat, smooth and clean. Avoid textured, damp and dirty surfaces.

OK
Wood
Metal
Flat glass / mirror
Flat tiles
Laminate / veneer
Plastic
Marble
Primed MDF

Avoid
Brick / stone walls

How do I remove air bubbles?

If you get air bubbles, don’t worry. You can either peel back and re-apply, or use a pin to prick the bubble and smooth out with your smoother.

You can minimize the appearance of air bubbles by following these simple steps:

  • Only peel back a small amount of backing paper at a time.
  • Smooth the vinyl from the centre out to the edges, peeling away the backing paper little by little as you go.
  • It is sometimes helpful to spray a little water to the surface of the area you are covering which helps the film glide into place and minimizes air bubbles. Use your smoother to squeeze out any excess moisture. The water will dry out after 24 hours.

What tools will I need?

  •  Tape measure
  •  Scissors
  •  Water spray bottle
  •  Pencil
  •  Application kit (scalpel and smoother)
  •  Hairdryer
  •  Screw driver
  •  Dry clean cloth

Are Kitchen Wraps heat resistant ?

Yes, the films are heat resistant to 75°C so hot plates and cups are fine but use worktop savers for hot pans

Are Kitchen Wraps water resistant?

Yes, the film’s surface is water resistant and can be wiped clean, but you need to prevent water from getting underneath, as this will compromise the adhesive and the vinyl may start to lift. To avoid this, always use a sealant around edges and joins when using in wet areas such as kitchens and bathrooms.

Can Kitchen Wraps be applied to beveled or shaker style doors?

Yes ! It’s not as straight forward as flat fronted doors but you can still do it in one of two ways:

Place the film over the whole door, make pin pricks in the vinyl where the grooves are and then use a hairdryer on a low setting and your smoother to gently push the film into the grooves. Click here to watch our ‘how to’ video

OR

Cut strips to cover the side and bottom sections and then fill in the centre piece.

How do I clean and maintain Kitchen Wraps?

Kitchen Wraps can be wiped clean using normal household cleaners.

Remember to use a chopping board when using knives and a heat proof mat for hot pans.

Can Kitchen Wraps be removed?

Yes, in the vast majority of cases the film can be peeled away, even after a long period of time. We recommend heating the vinyl with a hairdryer on a low setting to soften the adhesive, making it easier to peel.

How do I stop the corners lifting?

Ensure all 4 sides of the sticker are in contact with the tile. A 1-2 mm gap around each edge of the sticker is ideal to ensure the sticker doesn’t overhang the tile. Rounded tile edges are not suitable. Stickers should not be placed over grout UNLESS the grout is level with your tile and no wider than 3mm.

Can I use tile stickers on non-tiled surfaces such as painted walls and laminate floors?

We do not recommend using tile stickers to cover non-tiled surfaces for a few reasons: 1) It is almost impossible to line tile stickers up perfectly with no gaps or overlapping, 2) the final effect will not have grout lines and 3) stickers may peel up at the corners over time.

The good news is that for flat, non-tiled walls, you can use our Quadrostyle self adhesive splashback panels!

Can I use tile stickers on floor tiles?

Yes! the stickers can certainly be used over floor tiles. Just make sure you don’t allow them to sit in water (eg base of shower), don’t use them on heated floors and take care when moving furniture around.

How do I remove the tile stickers?

The low-tack adhesive used on our stickers means they can be re-positioned during application and when it’s time to remove them, they come off very easily, leaving no residue. Ideal for renters!

Are the tile stickers water resistant?

Yes, as long as the sticker is in 100% contact with the tile and not overhanging the grout lines, they can be used in wet areas such as shower cubicles if applied correctly.

Are the stickers heat resistant?

You need to remember that the stickers are vinyl so direct contact with heat is to be avoided. We recommend keeping the stickers at least 10cm away from a direct heat source. As a general guide, if something gets too hot to touch, it is too hot for a vinyl sticker!

Will the stickers fade?

The stickers have a UV laminate coating which helps prevent fading.

Can I use tile stickers on the tiles around my fireplace?

Yes, but only if the surface doesn’t get hot! Not suitable for open fires.

How do I clean the stickers?

Use a general household cleaner. Avoid scrubbing and harsh, abrasive chemicals. Wipe off any splashes that may stain immediately, such as tomato or curry.

Self Adhesive Window Films

What are the benefits of using self-adhesive window film?

What surfaces can self-adhesive window films be applied to?

Windows, glazed doors, conservatories, glass table tops and even shower screens (external side). The glass must be clean and smooth (it will not adhere well to textured or bevelled glass).

What tools do I need ?

  • Tape measure
  • Cloth
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Water spray bottle
  • Application kit with scalpel and smoother or squeegee.

Does the film stop light coming in?

No, the film will provide privacy with only partial loss of light. It also helps reduce glare.

Does the film provide privacy at night?

If the light is on inside and it’s dark outside, the film does not provide as much privacy as during the day but will still partially obscure the view.

Do I need to apply water to the glass before application?

Yes, this can aid application. Adding a couple of drops of washing up liquid to water and spraying this onto the glass helps the film slide into place and minimise bubbling. Use a smoother or squeegee to push the excess water out to the edges and dry with a cloth. The water may make the film go cloudy to begin with but should dry out within a few days.

How do I clean the window film?

Use a damp cloth and non-abrasive household cleaner.

How do I stop the edges of the film curling back over time?

When cutting the film, leave a 2mm gap around each edge to ensure it doesn’t overlap the window seals. The film needs to be 100% in contact with the glass to fully adhere.

Can the window film be removed?

Yes, the film can be removed. To make it easier apply a little heat using a hairdryer. Any residue can be removed with ethanol.

Static Cling Window films

What are the benefits of using static cling window film?

Static cling window films are very easy to apply using water (NO ADHESIVE). They provide privacy and decoration for a fraction of the cost of blinds or replacement glass. Window films are ideal for small or awkward shaped windows which can be hard to dress and, unlike blinds, window films don’t gather dust, they’re easy to keep clean and provide a clean, modern look for the home or office.

What tools do I need to apply static cling window film?

  • d-c-fix application kit containing scalpel and smoother (recommended) or squeegee
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Water spray bottle.

Does the film stop light coming in?

No, the film will provide privacy with only partial loss of light. It also helps reduce glare and provides 95% UV protection which helps prevent fading of carpets and soft furnishings.

Does the film provide privacy at night?

If the light is on inside and it’s dark outside, the film does not provide as much privacy as during the day but will still partially obscure the view.

How does the film stick to the glass?

The film sticks to the glass using static cling technology. Simply spray the glass with plenty of water, peel away the backing paper and smooth the static side of the film into place. The water may make the film go cloudy to begin with but should dry out within a few days.

How do I stop the edges of the film curling back over time?

When cutting the film, leave a 2mm gap around each edge to ensure it doesn’t overlap the window seals. The film needs to be 100% in contact with the glass to fully adhere.

How do I clean the window film?

Use a damp cloth and non-abrasive household cleaner.

Can the window film be removed?

Yes, the film can be removed very easily without leaving any residue.

Can static cling films be re-used?

Yes, as long as the film is rolled and stored away carefully. To re-apply just spray plenty of water onto the glass surface and smooth into place.

Stencils

Where can I use stencils?

Floors (wood, tiles), walls, furniture and even outdoor paths and patios. Always clean the surface thoroughly before you begin.

What do I need to get started?

  • Stencil template
  • Primer
  • Paint for base coat
  • Stencil paint (latex or acrylic)
  • CLEAR water based polyurethane varnish for indoor application (eg Ronseal diamond hard clear floor varnish) or patio & paving seal for outdoor application (eg Thompsons clear One Coat)
  • Paint brush /foam roller for base coat
  • Stencil Brush / small, dense foam roller for stencil application
  • Fine paint brush for touching up
  • Masking tape
  • Paint Tray or container
  • White spirit / turps to clean brushes / roller
  • Paper Towels

What paint(s) should I use for indoors?

First use a primer then apply a couple of coats of base using a roller. The base coats need to be completely dry before stenciling (it is recommended to wait 24 hours). The stencil paint can be acrylic, latex or chalk paint (read the manufacturer’s guidelines on usage) but the most important part is to seal the paint with a couple of coats of good quality CLEAR water based polyurethane varnish.

What paint(s) should I use for outdoors?

Use a masonry paint (in your chosen colours – base and accent colour). You may need a couple of coats.

Important! Make sure you read the paint manufacturer’s instructions with regard to temperature for application, cure time and time between coats.

Once painted you MUST use a clear patio & paving seal for protection.

How should I prep my path or patio?

You will need to jet wash the existing slabs or concrete to get it clean before starting the job. If the surface is dusty, brush away the dust before you start painting. Note: if working outdoors choose a calm, dry day with no wind to avoid dust and dirt being blown onto the wet paint.

How do I make sure the paint won’t come off?

When painting a floor, you need to be aware that there may be some wear and tear, meaning that it may not be as hard wearing as real tiles or patterned lino. However, the key thing is to seal the floor properly with a good quality varnish (for indoors) or a patio & paving seal (for outdoors).

How do I avoid bleeding?

The top tip to prevent bleeding is to ensure you don’t have too much paint on your brush or roller.

Do a test on some paper before you begin stenciling to get used to knowing how much paint to apply. Any bleeds can either be painted over or touched up afterwards with a fine paint brush. Note: paths and patios tend to have a textured, bumpy surface therefore you won’t be able to achieve completely clean, crisp lines on this type of surface. It all adds to the character!

How does the pattern match up between stencils?

Each stencil has one full motif within the outer border so on un-tiled surfaces, simply line the stencil up with the area already painted, working in a grid formation. If you are stencilling on tiles, just use the existing tile as your guide.

Is there a way to make the process quicker?

Stenciling is a job for the patient ! It can’t be rushed – you need to take your time! It is quicker and easier if you have two stencils to work with so when one is drying you can use the other.

What if I make a mistake?

If the whole motif is ruined just paint over it with your base coat once the stencil paint is dry. You will have to wait for the base coat to completely dry before you try again. If it’s a minor mistake, you may be able to wipe the paint with water.
